I believe that foreign language learning mainly happens outside of the classroom, in the real world, through daily interaction and, hopefully, some fun. An academic curriculum will establish your foundation, but satisfying progress will come from the independent exploration and practice you will choose to do on your own. It worked for me. I believe it will work for you as well.

Dear friend,
– Do you struggle to find material in French/Spanish that is age appropriate and at an intermediate level?
– Are you tired of memorizing endless vocabulary lists with no context to apply them to?
– Do you need help with your pronunciation?

I understand your frustration. I am a native French speaker and I learned Spanish and English. Currently, I enjoy teaching French. Having been on both sides of the language learning process, I believe my stories will be a useful complement to you, the self-starter, independent and motivated learner. I wish a similar resource had been available to me during my first years as a foreign language learner.

This is what I do for you:
I create everyday life stories as a vehicle to share French and Spanish vocabulary with you. Vocabulary used within a context, preferably entertaining, is easier to remember. I also believe that there are 3 principles you cannot ignore if you want to ensure lasting foreign language learning:
– Frequent exposure to your target language.
– Reading, listening and speaking practice.
– Consistency in your effort to learn.
Your membership with LanguageComics.com will help you apply these 3 principles and improve your proficiency in reading, listening and pronunciation.

How LanguageComics was born:
I have to give partial credit to my former high school French students for the LanguageComics.com idea, because their needs and their encouragement led to it. I have been passionate about drawing and storytelling since I can remember, I studied graphic design and later became a video editor. Being a language teacher connected the dots, et voilà, LanguageComics.com was born in 2011.

Here is what some members said:

“I have always been impressed with language comics as a concept and in the way it has been executed by this excellent team.It is an inspiration for both adult and child learners and both sets should find it easily accessible and constructive to their learning adventures in foreign languages. Don’t go changing!”

“Language Comics is a great tool with which to become familiar with Spanish or French in real life situations. The material is accessible, user friendly and entertaining. I really enjoy the cartoons and animation- I wish this had been available when I was teaching Spanish and learning French! It’s an excellent teaching resource and fun to use as a language learner. In fact, after reading through the episodes I think I will give learning French another chance!”

“Andy… Another fun story…I read these (en français) with my 7 yo granddaughter who gets a big kick out of them and who loves working on her French with “pappa!” Thanks for a fun and cool way to learn a language! Merci… Pat.”

“I’ve been studying French in my spare time for the past few months. LanguageComics has been a really helpful way to practice and learn new words. It doesn’t feel like studying at all. I look forward to finding out what Pol is up to next. And I can “study” when it’s convenient for me.”

“I use Languagecomics to practice my Spanish. It is a fun tool to learn/entertain a foreign language. The translation of nearly each word is very useful and the drawings are very entertaining. I just wish that the episodes were longer!”
Stella N.
Paris, France

“This page is a very resourceful tool. As a teacher, I found it easy to use, and this site not only works for teachers, it also functions for students who are learning Spanish. I will definitely recommend it as a resource for learning a second or third language.”
Antonio Meraz
Spanish teacher
New York City, New York

“I think this is a fantastic idea by the way. When I first started my German classes, our professor encouraged us our first year to read children books and comics. I did and it helped me immensely.
This kind of reading material can keep the language of their choice fresh and if there is difficult words then students click on them to find out what they are. I think you have stumbled upon a great idea here.”
